About
Hi, my name is Haywan Chiu. I’m a 23 year old pre-medical student. I have been playing with origami and cardboard since I was 5 and began papercrafting in September 2007. After completing some more difficult papercrafts, I started making them for friends as gifts. They were completely surprised that it was made entirely out of paper. Naturally, questions followed, and I found myself answering the same questions. I realize that not many people have even heard of papercraft.
I have one younger sibling, and he designs websites as a hobby. On July 18th, 2008, I messaged him on facebook if he wanted to make a website for me. I threw out a bunch of ideas, and he liked most of it. On August 14th, 2008, he found time to work on the coding for the website. Two days later, I began telling every friend, relative, coworker, and even my boss about PaperCraftMuseum. By October 10th, 2008, I managed to make 1,000 model entries for the Museum.
Papercraft models take time, effort, and computer-know-how to design, and most papercraft designers have their own website or way of distributing their models. It is frustrating for people new to papercraft because often their only method to find these models is through major search engines. Making model updates for PaperCraftMuseum is a little tedious, but I don’t mind the work because it is my contribution to the free papercraft community.
My goal for this website is to be a place where people can find everything they need to know about papercraft, including tutorials to build them, design them, and a stream-lined database where visitors can easily browse for models.
Thank you for visiting!
Haywan Chiu
