I've been building models for a while now, but I haven't yet had any of them cave in at any point. I recently just made the Left 4 Dead tank, and I had a section of his back (right by his shoulder) cave in. The model was already closed up. I pushed the edges in hopes of popping it out (and it seems to be the only method at this time) but I was too scared to apply any more pressure without damaging the model.

So what I ended up doing was getting a sewing needle. I punctured the model right beside the caved in area. After that I pushed down on the needle which pushed upwards on the caved in area from inside the model. And that was enough to pop it back into place.

This does leave a tiny hole in the model, but it looks much better than having a large area caved in. Thought I'd just drop this idea here in case this would be of use to anyone.

you need 3 basic programs.
1.google sketchup*
2.pepekura deigner*

you make a 3d model in sketchup, which there are thousand of tuts for, then export as a 3ds file, or something along the lines of that, and import from pepekura, in which you unfold, make a few adjustments, save, print and wallah! you have a model. also sketchup has a model warehouse with THOUSANDS of model to choose from, premade by other people.

*to export to any other format besides .skp, .dae, or .kmz, you need to down load the 30day trial of sketchup pro. also, pepekura designer doesn't have a free trial period. also, the .dae file format that you can export in the free version of sketchup, isnt the same as the .dae file that you can import into pepekura.

goodluck!

A way to get started building, but not actually making models.... which is what yimiy asked for.
Have to have a photoediting program, and a 3D program. Examples of each would be Gimp (freeware) or Photoshop (have to buy it) and Metasequioa or Blender (both free) respectively. Just use google to find their home pages.
Once you have one of each kind of program, nick is right; there are quite a few tutorials on nintendopapercraft, and all around the internet.

DO NOT try this model without pepakura viewer. pepakura viewer IS the instructions to building the model. it shows you where peices are on a model and how they connect. why cant you understand pepakura viewer? its pretty simple. but it wont work if you have a mac.

i highly highly highly reccomned that you figure out how to at least View in pepakura. but here is a link to "Life Size Link" in pdf format. NOTE: it doesn't include the sword, shield, or sheath. The only reason that I have it in PDF is because i sent it to a printer to get printed then shipped back to me (ended up being like 30 USD) anyway, it's like 150 pages or so. I haven't finished building yet, i'm cutting out parts right now. I've finished the upper torso. For instructions, check out the videos!
